The Resurrection: Part 2

Happy
Tuesday, beautiful world! Hooray, we all made it through another Monday.
So, I’m super excited about this week…because two things are happening.
1) IT IS EASTER THIS SUNDAY! Woohoo! Y’all know that Easter is my favorite holiday.
I mean, who wouldn’t want to climb onto their roof and dance and shout to the
world that their sins are FORGIVEN?!
I would, but my roof is slanted and I could possibly fall off and die if I did
that. Ah well. And 2) My BIRTHDAY is on Thursday! So all in all, this should
prove to be a wonderful week! Alrighty, I’m going to end my little blabbing
intro and say what I always do: thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy!

Resurrection. Beautiful word. It literally means to come back from the
dead. Now let me ask a “Sunday School” question to make sure you’re not
sleeping. (#guilty!)

What
is Easter?

Sunday
School answer: the very first Easter was the day when Jesus
rose from the dead. But what does that mean? And is that really the most
important part?

Let’s
look at that in 1 Corinthians 15:12-22.

“Now if Christ is
proclaimed as raised from the dead,
 how can some of
you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain
and your faith is in vain.
We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we
testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he
did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised.
For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in
your sins.
Then those also who have fallen asleep
in Christ have perished.
If in Christ we have hopein
this life only,
we are of all people most to be pitied.”

But in fact Christ has been
raised from the dead
,
the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come
also the resurrection of the dead
.
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.

Alright. That’s a lot of information. Let me try to break it down so
it’s easier to understand.

Let’s look at the first section, verses 12-15.

Now if Christ is
proclaimed as raised from the dead,
 how can some of
you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain
and your faith is in vain.
We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we
testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he
did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised.”

Paul was writing to the Corinthians,
in his first letter to the Corinthians. These people did not all (even as
Christians) believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead.

The
Corinthians, having a Greek background, believed in the immortality of the soul
but not in the resurrection of the dead and therefore some of them either did
not believe that Jesus was raised or
they had an inconsistent faith.

Now,
this creates a problem, and I’ll share it in a minute. If we say that Christ was raised from the dead, we cannot say that there is
so resurrection of the dead
. If we believe that He is alive, we must
believe that we also will be made alive at the rapture (physically, not just
spiritually).

Now
this is the problem. Let’s take a look at verses 16-19.

“For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in
your sins.
Then those also who have fallen asleep
in Christ have perished.
If in Christ we have hopein
this life only,
we are of all people most to be pitied.”

If Christ has not been raised from the dead, there is no
Easter.

Because
the wonder of Easter is not only that the resurrection of Jesus
is amazing, but that our sins are forgiven. That is where we get our hope.

If Christ has not
been raised, your faith is futile and
 you are still in
your sins.

Everything
rides on this one fact: the dead will rise again. If we do not believe this, we
have no hope. Forget the bunnies and peeps and chocolate. Without this amazing
hope, we are l.i.t.e.r.a.l.l.y. hopeless. Without the resurrection, we are not
forgiven.

But before you get caught up in thinking that we really are hopeless, let’s read verses 20-22.

But in fact Christ has been raised
from the dead
,
the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come
also the resurrection of the dead
.
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.

Christ with 100% certainty has
been raised from the dead. That’s not only biblical, it’s historical. Because
of Adam, we have died – both
spiritually and physically. But now, because of Christ,
we have hope that both we will rise from the dead at the rapture (Jesus instantly taking all believers to heaven), and
also because of Jesus’ resurrection,
we will live forever with Him. Isn’t that so encouraging?

Easter
is amazing. If I put aside the candy and festivities though, is it still that
amazing?

Yeah,
actually. Without all the fluffiness of the holiday, Easter is even better.

      1. I don’t unfortunately. I’d love to have one but my parents don’t like the idea. I’m going to ask if I can start one after I turn 16 this summer. I’m glad you liked the article. I love to write and it was nice of Trent to post my article.

  1. Dear Amanda, My name is Jeanne, I am Katie’s sister. Katie shared with me your posts I hope you don’t mind.
Well your posts really woke me up from my sleep! ha.. Amazing I thought the first post was surely written by your mom. Anyway your message about Christ and why we have faith in Him at all is because we want to go to heaven and we simply cannot get a passport to heaven unless we believe and follow his teachings and ask him for forgiveness so we are clean when we get there. Which you clearly point out. Well this message has really hit me in an odd way.. I have been following the articles on illegal immigrants in our country and the refugee situation at the border. A lot of American citizens are angry that they have to put up their hard earned taxes to take care of all these people as I get it we don’t want to be a broke country either or find ourselves all on the social welfare programs of the government by not working. So your wise mother would tell you not to go online and post as it is very very dangerous she is absolutely correct. …. well I felt overwhelmingly compelled for some reason to reply to posts on a newspaper website as I really believe even Christians really know what they are writing when they post ” send them back the parasites!” As these are children coming to our country fleeing from danger not trying to take anyone’s taxes, really. So I want to tell you how exciting your message from Christ really is because I think I get it now…. I hope He knows I understood this idea of Christ being our ultimate vehicle to heaven and His sacrifice in doing so. I am sure based on my personal history I will perhaps fall asleep again but maybe not if I read your posts each Tuesday! : )

Anyway here is the fruition of how I received your message and how I applied it below.
Here is my post to an angry person re: refugees at our borders

@binnie5 As far as our taxes are concerned Jesus said to pay the taxes to whomever face is on the coin however our hearts and minds are to be given to Him. Does He not have you and I in mind and those that give of our taxes over and above with less surely will HE not give back to us all the more?
Tomorrow some will celebrate the marking of Christ’s resurrection and some celebrate this hoping as we will all die a mortal death but by living in faith on His promise that if we follow His ways we can go too? That in fact we can’t go to heaven unless we live by his teachings as if we don’t we are too sinful to pass the test to go where he is in heaven?
That he has prepared a room for us if we are cleaned of our sins by asking him for forgiveness. So how can some of us that say we want to go to heaven when we complain about giving a bed and shelter to children..here on Earth?« less

    1. Thank you Jeanne! I’m glad it spoke to you. God is at work! I think the best part about this is: we do not have to do anything to get to heaven! Just accept his free gift! And that makes me overflow with JOY, and I’m so glad you do too! Happy Easter and God bless you!
