It’s Okay To Not Be Okay.

It’s Okay To Not Be Okay

Sometimes, it’s okay to not be okay.

Because we’re not always okay.

Life happens. Stresses happen – deadlines and commitments and everything else piles up on top of each other – and we can feel so worn.

Depression happens. That feeling of unrelenting suppression of feelings, hopes, dreams, joy.

Disappointments happen. We look forward to things and they don’t happen and we’re heartbroken.

Betrayal happens. Things we once thought should have been decided not to be – people we thought we could trust turned on us – things change and we don’t know how to cope.

Life happens and it’s okay when we fall apart into a million pieces — because we have a God that wants to put us back together.

Life happens and it’s okay to not be okay, because when we realize that that we’re not fine, we open ourselves up to the amazing grace we find in Jesus alone.

It’s okay to not be okay, because we’ll never be perfect and we shouldn’t try to be.

It’s okay to not be okay because all God wants from us is hearts open to Him, hearts that believe on Him to forgive our sins, hearts that long for Him and are satisfied.

It’s okay when things don’t go right because we live in a fallen, imperfect, unholy world.

It’s okay, because we have a sinless, holy God, who desires that we would come to Him to find help in our time of need.

It’s okay to not be okay, because as soon as we realize that we’re not all set on our own, we open ourselves up to receive the help that only Jesus offers. The hope that’s so accessible before us.

Everyone struggles with something. Whether it’s our own fault, or the doing of someone or something else, we all have things we’ll wrestle with.

Life doesn’t always play nice. But faith’s always there for us to cling to.

When we’re not okay, we can cling to our faith and seek our God.

We can seek God and find that true strength is found in God alone. When we’re wearied and weak, we can run to Him.

We can seek God and find that true hope is found in the Cross of Christ. We have absolutely nothing to fear when we see that sin and death has been defeated by our Savior who died and rose again for us. Nothing’s too hard for Him.

When we hear that we have “nothing to fear,” we can so easily write it off and think that it’s not true. Things are still terrifying. Life’s still scary. Problems still occur.

And yet, when we can see that He defeated death itself, we can see His power – His trustworthiness and faithfulness – and know that He is worthy to be trusted. He is still where we find our hope. There is no one else under heaven who can give us the hope that He does.

We can seek God and find that true rest is found in accepting the grace of God. When we lay down our works and look to His, we can truly rest – because He is the One whose righteousness has credited to.

We can seek God and find that true love is found in Jesus. The love that all of our souls crave goes deeper than anything anyone else could ever satisfy.

So in our not-okay-ness, let us seek God. Let us be filled with the things that our hearts truly long for: strength. Hope. Rest. Love.

Because we won’t find them anywhere else.

In not being okay, let us open our souls to accept what God freely has for us to take: Himself. Let us build our dependence on Him – and find joy in every moment.

  1. Thank you for this, Amanda.
There’s a little card in our bathroom windowsill that says, “My grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in weakness.”
So when ever I’m feeling not okay, weak, and struggiling, I see that and smile, remembering that when I’m weak (or just 24/7 no matter what) I can lean into God.
This post just reminded me of that, so thank you again! XD
